Scripts and script-fading is a procedure which use an audiotaped or written word, phrase, or sentence that enables children with autism to start or continue conversation. After a child learns to imitate audiotaped scripts or to read written scripts, the scripts are faded by removing the last word, the next-to-last word, and so on, until there are no words remaining. Using scripts children learn to initiation social interaction, structure of language and conversation.
