摘要
The fatigue process of a 0.45% carbon steel was studied with hour‐glass shaped specimens under rotatary bending. The plastic replication technique was applied to observe surface short fatigue cracks. Fatigue cracks initiated continuously with increasing number of cycles. The failure of a specimen largely depended on the number and distribution of these short cracks. The relationship of surface fatigue crack density to both stress amplitude and number of cycles was determined. Copyright © 1991, Wiley Blackwell. All rights reserved
