SYNTHESIS OF METHANOL FROM CARBON-DIOXIDE AND HYDROGEN ON A MOLTEN RANEY CATALYST

The effect of the technological parameters on the efficiency of a copper-containing molten Raney catalyst and the quality of the methanol raw material was investigated. The studies were conducted using carbon dioxide and hydrogen as the raw material for production of methanol. It was shown that when the temperature and H-2:CO2 ratio were changed, the efficiency of the catalyst passed through a maximum. Increasing the pressure and gas volume flow rate increased the efficiency of the catalyst. A circulation scheme of production of methanol from carbon dioxide and hydrogen was tested. The curve of the catalyst efficiency and quality of product as a function of the H-2:CO2 ratio was calculated with the test. It was shown that it is necessary to keep the H-2:CO2 ratio in the starting gas close to the stoichiometric ratio for obtaining a high degree of conversion of the starting components into methanol.
