There are a number of approximation problems which, when certain limitations are imposed on them, cannot be solved analytically, for example, when it is required to assemble a filter using components which have a selectivity that is insufficient to give a polynomial Chebyshev characteristic using the predistortion method. In such cases it is necessary to use numerical methods of approximation, which have greater possibilities.
