Stents have become the technique of choice for percutaneous revascularization, but in-stent restenosis has remained a clinical challenge. This brief article summarizes the incidence, patterns, and proposed mechanisms of restenosis and outlines its contemporary management with specific focus on the diabetic patient. It includes a synopsis of the strategy of drug-eluting stents, which is the most recent and major advance in percutaneous coronary intervention. Copyright © 2004 by Current Science Inc.
