Stent restenosis and the use of drug-eluting stents in patients with diabetes mellitus

Stents have become the technique of choice for percutaneous revascularization, but in-stent restenosis has remained a clinical challenge. This brief article summarizes the incidence, patterns, and proposed mechanisms of restenosis and outlines its contemporary management with specific focus on the diabetic patient.
