摘要
Unraveling the mechanisms of aging and interventions to prolong human life is a challenging but exciting goal of current research. Diet plays a major role in daily human life, and dietary patterns and specific nutritional supplements may play a significant role in promoting human health and prolonging life. Current evidence suggests that eating a Mediterranean diet and supplementation with certain vitamins may decrease morbidity and mortality. Other strategies, such as CR, rapamycin, and resveratrol, have shown promising results in animal studies, but human data are lacking. Further mechanistic studies in animal models and clinical studies in humans are warranted to explore additional interventions for the increasing life span. © 2014 American Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition.
