摘要
Existing studies examining the impact of human and organizational capital on firm performance are based on data for firms from various industries. However, a review of existing research as well as a case study on the German mechanical engineering industry presented in this article, suggests that an industry-focused, insider-econometric design would be more appropriate. Several propositions derived via resource-based arguments are confirmed in an ordered logistic regression analysis on data from the NIFA workplace panel. Training intensity, as a measure of human capital, is positively associated with subsequent performance. The use of computer-aided practices of planning and control and of NC/CNC machines, as measures of organizational capital, is also positively associated with subsequent performance.
