摘要
This chapter discusses the main characteristics associated with virtual communities of learning (CoLs), including critical success factors (CSFs) and barriers. It incorporates a brief survey of the relevant literature and illustrates these features with the C2LEARN project, the goals of which include the building of CoL within two higher education institutions (one United Kingdom, one Portuguese) and a study of the concomitant benefits, barriers, and CSFs. The chapter also suggests a framework for analyzing and monitoring the CSFs related to the proposed CoL.
