Fatty ethylhydrazide from palm oil: chemical synthesis and characterization

摘要
In this study, palm oil was reacted with ethylhydrazine in hexane by a refluxing method to produce fatty ethylhydrazides (FEHs). Glycerol was produced as a by-product. FEHs have been characterized using elemental analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, and H-1 nuclear magnetic resonance techniques. The results showed that a 6:1 molar ratio of palm oil to ethylhydrazine, giving about 76 % maximum conversion of palm oil into FEHs, and an 11-h reaction time are the optimum reaction conditions.
