In order to decrease postoperative inflammation after cataract surgery, we developed a biodegradable drug delivery system (DDS) combined with the artificial intraocular lens (IOL). DDS were prepared using poly(lactide-co-glycolide) or PLGA of various molecular weight and were loaded with triamcinolone acetonide (TA). In vitro, the higher the Mw of PLGA, the slower was the cumulative release of TA. Cataract Surgery was performed in rabbits and DDS combined with IOL was inserted. Our DDS were shown to inhibit inflammation caused by cataract surgery.
