Prior to the appearance of the hand of Irulegi we expected that a Vasconic inscription would be intelligible from the reconstructed Proto-Basque. However, it is not the case of the HoI, which presents a greater affinity with Iberian than expected. According to my interpretation, this situation favours the inclusion of Iberian in the Basque language family. Furthermore, it raises doubts about whether the proto-Basque reconstructed for the 1st century BC came to exist; perhaps, the Vasconic could be the closest language to the real proto-Basque that we can hope to find. In any case, it is a single text, so it seems prudent to wait for more texts to be documented to give a solid answer to this question.
