EARLY TREATMENT OF DIABETIC NEUROPATHY

Treatment of diabetic neuropathy is a dif-ficult cJinical problem.In this paper,clinicalexperience on managing 120 newly discovered,untreated,noninsulin dependent cases is pre-sented.Besides strict control of diabetes,thetherapeutic effect of different drugs includingthe vitamin B group,myoinositol,carbamaze-pine,etc for neurologic manifestations is in-vestigated.No statistical difference was foundbetween groups with or without drug therapy.So the strict control of diabetes with attenua-tion of hyperglycemia has been considered thesole reliable factor for the effective therapy ofneuropathy.Motor nerve conduction velocitywas restored to a certain extent in differentperipheral nerves indicating that early func-tional nerve damage is reversible on diabetictherapy.Neurogenie bladder and other auto-nomic dysfunction can also be remitted.Whileboth peripheral and autonomic neuropathy canbe improved on diabetic control,early diagno-sis and treatment are the key to obtaining goodtherapeutic effect.
