摘要
The combination of 280 m radius curves and 2. 7% gradients make the congested Gotthard route a good proving ground for wear-resistant rail. it was found that special grade chrome-manganese steel of 110 to 125 kg/mm**2 tensile strength has a much longer life than UIC 'B' and 'C' grades under these arduous conditions, both as regards wear and shelling. This chrome-manganese rail exhibits a reasonable work-hardening capacity and good impact test behavior.
