This is the first of a planned series of research papers reporting work carried out at the University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology on connections in structural steelwork. The UMIST programme has covered friction grip bolted connections, welded joints and hybrid connections, and in this paper the authors examine behaviour of high strength friction grip (HSFG) bolted connections subject to in-plane shear and moment.
