The effects of the simultaneous variation of the ratio of feed gases, feed gas flow rate, and partial pressure of TiCl//4 were investigated to evaluate the performance of TiN coated cemented carbide tools in wear tests. Deposition was carried out at 950 to 1100 C. The optimal coating conditions are defined on the basis of the results. In the wear tests performed, the flank wear of coated tools was up to one third lower than that of uncoated tools, and the TiN-coated tools had remarkable crater wear resistance, up to one sixth of that of uncoated tools.
