摘要
Fatigue crack growth in the vicinity of welded joints in wide plates has been examined. In one series of tests the applied load was normal to the crack plane and growth was initiated in the center of the weld bead. Crack growth in gas tungsten-arc and electron beam welds was studied. The second series of tests involved crack growth normal to the weld line to examine the effect of residual stress on crack growth. An analytical procedure was developed to predict crack growth when compressive residual stresses are present.
