An electron microscopic analysis is made of the martensitic structure in steel 52Kh2N23 at intermediate stages in the formation of lenticular thin-plate martensite nucleated under the influence of a pulsating magnetic field. The dislocation fringes or frills observed at the start of isothermal holding are associated with the start of lateral growth. After longer holding the growing plates acquire a stepped martensite-austenite interface which only becomes smooth at the final stage of growth.
