Over a period of many years, most of the small, non-critical pipe has been ASTM A120-A53 specification. The most efficient and economical welding processes are oxyacetylene (OAW) for smaller sizes, and shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) for sizes larger than 2 in. (51 mm). Filler metals should be AWS R60 for oxyacetylene and AWS E6010 for shielded metal arc welding.
