摘要
The ice shape formed inside a pipe containing a water flow was examined experimentally. It was shown that two transition modes of ice shape were observed; one is smooth transition mode and the other, a step mode. The onset conditions of the step transition mode, which were correlated in terms of pipe Reynolds number and cooling temperature ratio, were derived by analytical considerations and confirmed by experimental results. It was also found that a laminarization of flow is related to the formation of an ice-band for smaller Reynolds numbers, while a turbulence of flow may affect the ice shape for larger ones. It was found that the ice shape pattern can be classified into four large groups in relation to the pipe Reynolds number as well as the cooling temperature ratio.
