In order to provide the effective method forevaluating the status of earth pressure balance (EPB) shield machine during tunnel excavation in composite stratum, this study investigated the advancing state of EPB shield machine of Sanzao tunneling engineering, Zhuhai. This study was conducted based on the measured data, evident theory and membership function. Eight influencing factors weredetermined from practical tunnel projects. The measured data were classified into four levels. A comprehensive advancing state evaluation model of EPB shied machine based on evident theory was proposed. Evident theory is an effective method to fuse the measured data thatmakes the evaluation result more reliable. The developed model is convenient for operation. The evaluated results indicated that the developed model iseffective in the status evaluation of EPB shield machine in composite stratum. The evaluated result provides a tool to assess the state of EPB machine. © 2021, Central South University Press. All rights reserved.
