摘要
The interactions between freshly deposited airborne particles and the pulmonary surfactant (PS) are analyzed. Due to effective sorption of PS components at hydrophobic surfaces, hydrophobic (HB) particles become better wetted by the hypophase. In addition, both HB and hydrophilic (HL) particles can induce a similar immediate hydrodynamic response at the air/liquid interface. It is likely that a superficial microflow towards the spot of particle deposition can be recognized by alveolar macrophages as a first signal of the presence of foreign body on the alveolar surface.
