Properties of concrete integrated with recycled concrete sand

this paper investigates the effects of replacement of recycled concrete sand (rcS) with fine aggregates, on the fresh and hardened properties of concrete. the property of rcS mixed concrete was studied and compared with control concrete of 40 MPa compressive strength. the properties of rcS concrete differs from control concrete prepared with natural sand, because of presence of attached mortar, old cement paste and more fines. the results indicate that the rcS concrete shows comparable workability in comparison to r0 concrete. the mechanical properties (compressive, flexure, split tensile and modulus of elasticity) of concrete made with rcS was lower in compression to control concrete but acceptable upto 60% rcS in mix. the drying shrinkage strain of 100% rcS mixed concrete at 28 days was observed twice in compression to controlled concrete and it showed more abrasion value in that comparison and also concrete made with 100% rcS showed 41% and 11.3% lower in sorption value at early and later age stage respectively in that comparison. © 2018 Associated Cement Companies Ltd.
