摘要
Online course development in higher education requires careful planning by faculty and instructional designers so materials are offered in a pre-meditated and thought-out way. An applied thermodynamics class is developed for online offering in the Fall semester of 2023 using the backward design method. This method allows faculty to create a development plan for their course before creating online content. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate that developing classes for online delivery requires careful attention to best practices that can capture the student's attention and enhance their learning experience. The outcome of this work is a structured design experience, which is preferred and completely different from the rush to online teaching, which occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic.
