摘要
The creep rupture properties of the austenitic stainless steel 253MA of composition 21Cr-11Ni-Si-O. 17N with and without cerium additions have been studied. Cerium reduced the number of inclusions and their elongated shape or clustered form was modified to homogeneously distributed spherical particles. Sulfides at the grain boundaries were found only in the cerium-free steels. Creep cavitation at the sulfide sites occurred in the same way as that observed for low alloy steels. This is believed to be a mechanism for the improved creep ductility on adding cerium. The creep strength was simultaneously enhanced, supporting its close association with creep ductility.
