INVESTIGATIONS OF INTERFACES IN AL COMPOSITES REINFORCED WITH NI-COATED C-FIBERS

摘要
To produce Al composites reinforced with C fibres it is necessary to deposite thin films at the fibres. Using Ni films there are interfaces from the type Al/Ni/C. The quality of the interface determine the properties of composites. The interfaces were investigated with analytical TEM, SEM/EDS and X-ray diffraction. The results showed that an Ni diffusion into the Al matrix can be observed. Intermetallic phases of the type Al3Ni and Al9FeNi could be detected. The Al4C3 phase was not found. From these results it can be concluded that Ni depositions are suitable to reinforce the Al matrix with C fibres depending on the production parameters.
