INFLUENCE OF GRAIN-SIZE AND CARBONATE IMPURITIES ON THE TRITIUM RELEASE FROM LITHIUM ORTHOSILICATE

摘要
Tritium annealing studies and in-pile irradiation tests on lithium orthosilicate demonstrate the influence of lithium carbonate and/or carbon dioxide impurities from which the maximum tritium release is shifted from about 450 to about 700-degrees-C. Tritium release is faster with small grained orthosilicate samples than with coarse grained ones. This grain-size effect decreases with decreasing temperature and vanishes at about 400-degrees-C.
