A contactless method with a Hall probe is used for measurements of hysteresis loops of the magnetic field produced by screening currents and for time dependent relaxation measurements in superconducting Y1Ba2Cu3O7-x thin films and (Bi,Pb)2Sr2Ca2Cu3O10+x bulk samples. The influence of the magnetic field sweep rate in both types of experiment is studied. Electric field versus current density (E-J) characteristics are evaluated from the hysteresis loops, and the results of the relaxation experiments are discussed. The possibility of temperature dependent measurements using the method with the Hall probe is demonstrated.
