ACCESSIBILITY TERMS AT HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTIONS BUCARAMANGA, COLOMBIA

This paper reports on a study from the perspective of Occupational Therapy in order to identify the optimum conditions providing the environment for the performance of such activities; in the education sector. The study evaluated the accessibility of the physical infrastructures of seven Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), Bucaramanga and its metropolitan area, approved by the Ministry of National Education (MEN), reserving their identities, projecting an awareness outreach HEI, for leadership of actions aimed at social inclusion and participation for people with physical disabilities. The methodological development contemplated a descriptive cross-sectional study, a tool supported in the Compendium of accessibility to the physical environment of the Colombian Institute for Technical Standards and Certification (ICONTEC). The results were as follows: structure of a level 11% (n = 10), given 90 formed by eleven offices buildings. Access ramps in 51% (n: 46) and to navigate within them were found only 3% (n = 3). They were found in 19% (n: 17) presence of elevators. Accessibility auditoriums and sociocultural scenarios, in 28% (n: 26). Ten libraries found, only one of them showed optimal accessibility. Accessible health units, where 2 are identified with compliance: Similarly, 18% (n 16) was found, 7% (n = 6) parking, only 2% meet regulatory signs.
