An electrostatic diagnosis method has been applied to the viability and prebreakdown states in engineering, which involves recording the occurrence of charged particles in a gas flow, which are formed by burning and breakage in components, erosion wear, and combustion-product condensed-phase particles during tests on the gas - air system in a gas turbine. The electrostatic diagnosis principle is considered, and electrostatic sensors are described, features and advantages of screened electrostatic sensors are pointed out. Hot tests have been performed on the refractory tube in a gas-turbine combustion chamber, in which failure in the fuel - air fitting was simulated. The failure instants in metal and nonmetallic components have been recorded.
