The University Quarter in the Urban Space of Paris (Late 14th - Early 15th Centuries)

Founded in the early 13th century, the University of Paris soon claimed a part of the urban space, the "corporation of scientists" being able to gradually override a wide but compact quarter on the left bank of the Seine. The quarter was not homogeneous. Like the University which emphasized its special position within the space of the city, the quarter's structural units also aspired to delimit its space. The article focuses on the different forms of spatial relations which existed between the two worlds - the University and the city.
