SMOKING PREVENTION IN ADOLESCENTS

In many countries, including Cuba, smoking indexes are really high in adolescents. The beginning of the smoking addiction at early ages increases the risk of death by smoking-related causes. A research was conducted at "Manuel Prieto" Senior High School in Cumanayagua, Cienfuegos; using as sample 70 eleventh grade adolescents, which represents 79.5 % of the population. Theoretical, empirical, and mathematical-statistic methods were used. During the research it was proven that the knowledge adolescents have about the smoking poisoning effects is insufficient, and that they do not do any activity to modify this situation, so an educative strategy was designed in response to the scientific problem stated.
