摘要：

The history of Comparative Literature begins with the term "World Literature", invented by Goethe in 1827. What did "World Literature" contain for Goethe and what does it mean now in our present time of 'global` capitalism? The term "World Literature" passed through various definitions which are discussed in this article from a historical point of view proceeding from Erich Auerbach's "Philology of Weltliteratur", Fritz Strich's "Goethes Idee einer Weltliteratur" and Werner Krauss' "Probleme der vergleichenden Literaturgeschichte".
