ANALYSIS OF OPTICAL RIB WAVE-GUIDES AND COUPLERS WITH BURIED GUIDING LAYER

摘要
Optical rib waveguides and couplers with buried guiding layer are analyzed by using a variational technique for the scalar guided modes and a perturbation method for the vector correction. Both the propagation constants and the field patterns of the guided modes can be calculated very efficiently on a personal computer. The validity and accuracy of the method are assessed by comparing with other existing methods. It is shown that the method proposed is able to yield accurate results with very little computation. The effects of graded-index of the guiding layer and the titled slope of the rib sides are also considered in the analysis.
