摘要
A technique for constructing evolutionary trees in cases where the similarity between proteins under comparison is small is proposed. Calculation of similarity is done for the conservative fragments in a given family. The technique makes it possible to reveal relationships in amino acid sequences even when conventional methods yield no results. An evolutionary tree of the family of signal receptor proteins is constructed. With the exception of STE2, all investigated proteins exhibit nonrandom similarity.
