摘要
The use of multidetector arrays of Compton suppressed spectrometers has led to a revolution in gamma-ray spectroscopy during the past 10 years. One of the outstanding discoveries has been that of superdeformed states in nuclei at high angular momentum. These states have been found in many nuclei and detailed spectroscopic studies have led to an improved theoretical understanding and many open questions. The EUROGAM array is being built by a U.K.-France collaboration to address some of the questions and to investigate nuclear structure at a much improved level of sensitivity.
