摘要
The oxidation of furfural to maleic acid has been studied in the presence of a large number of solid catalysts in a fluidized bed to correlate the various physical and chemical properties of the oxidation catalysts with their catalytic activity. A fair correlation was obtained between the bond energies of the oxygen of the surface layer of oxide, ionic radius of the metal ion in the oxide, specific magnetic susceptibility of the oxide, semiconducting properties of the oxide and crystal field theory of the oxide with the catalytic activity. Using a mixed catalyst a maximum conversion of 64. 27% to maleic acid was obtained at a temperature of 250 C, oxygen/aldehyde mole ratio of 229 and space velocity 2400 litres/hr/litre.
