When patients have difficulty in swallowing, the crushing or opening of medication is common practice. If a modification of the dosage form is required, it is important to (re) assess the treatment. The French Society of Clinical Pharmacy has produced a guide to whether a medication can be crushed or opened depending on pharmacokinetic and galenic elements and suggests alternatives where appropriate (c) 2017 Elsevier Masson SAS.
