摘要
The paper describes how some commercial VLSI microprocessors have been designed: such as the Motorola MC68000, the MC68010 and 68020, and the IBM Micro/370. Design and verification methods are described and the software tools used are noted. The evolution of chips, methods and tools is described and some future trends are projected. At present, logic design for standard microprocessors is performed manually then verified on a computer. In the author's opinion this level of automation will not increase in the forseeable future, although the design tools will run faster due to advancing computer technology.
