摘要
Electron microscopy has shown that soot particles grow by agglomeration to form fractal clusters. Losses by gravitional deposition for such clusters have been measured for laminar flow in a cylindrical tube. The terminal velocity of the clusters was calculated from the penetration. The aerodynamic diameter was found to be considerably less than the volume equivalent diameter of the clusters, indicating that fractal clusters sediment more slowly than compact spheres of the same mass.
