1,1-DICHLOROETHANE CHLORINATION IN 1,2,4-TRICHLOROBENZENE MEDIUM

摘要
A study is made of the free-radical chlorination of 1,1-dichloroethane in a 1,2,4-trichlorobenzene medium in a wide range of temperatures ( minus 20 to plus 50 degree C) and solvent concentrations (0 to 6 mol/liter). The selective action of the solvent is interpreted in terms of a mechanism including attack of C-H bonds in 1,1-dichloroethane by chlorine atoms and aromatic II-complexes. An equation for determining the selectivity of the investigated process is obtained. The parameters of the equation are discussed from the standpoint of the electron-donor properties of the solvent.
