PULSE-GENERATOR DRIVING AN ELECTRON-GUN

By modulating the electron gun beam in a diagnostic spectrometer of solid surfaces, the energy distribution of emitted secondary electrons N(E) can be recorded instead of its first derivative dN/dE after minor modifications of the circuits for processing signals in the spectrometer. Given inductive coupling, both the input and output of the generator are electrically insulated from the high-voltage circuits. Test records of the spectra of characteristic losses in N(E) form are given. The records were obtained by modulating the primary electron beam using the pulse generator. The losses in dN/dE form as recorded by modulating the braking potential are also given.
