THE KINETICS OF BOILING UP OF A SUPERHEATED LIQUID DURING THE CONDITIONING OF AN INITIATING SURFACE

The establishment of the steady-state value of the mean lifetime of superheated liquid in the presence of a porous and smooth metal surface was investigated experimentally. It has been found that the mean lifetime exponentially rises as the surfaces are ''conditioned.'' The form of histograms varies from exponentially decreasing at the beginning of ''conditioning'' to a function with a maximum at the end of conditioning. The ''conditioning'' is a random process with a noticeable aftereffect.
