Influence of Different Fertilizers on Growth of Vaccinium angustifolium

The aim of our experiment was to study the influence of nine different fertilizers on Vaccinium angustifolium seedling development. Seedlings were fertilized two times at the end of May 2006 using 1 g of fertilizer per 1 litre of water with water (control) or the following fertilizers: Rodo kestoslannos (8-5-8), Kristallin (24-5-10 + S 2,5), Expert Gardener (TM) (33-11-11+microelements), Kemira Power (18-9-9 + Mg, Ca, S, B), Ammonium sulphate (N 21- S 23), Autumn-spring fertilizer (3-15-24), Rekle complete fertilizer (17-7-14 + S 4.75 Ca, B, Cu, Zn), Strawberry-berry fertilizer (8-6-17 + S 5.74, Ca, B, Cu, Zn) and Kemira Hortigrow (P15-K20 + Mg, S, B, Cu, Mn, Mo, Fe, Zn). In late autumn, seedling height and level of branching was measured. The fertilizer treatments had a significant influence (p<0.001) on shoot height and seedling branching. However, these responses were only attributed to five of the fertilizers (Rodo kestoslannos, Kristallin, Expert Gardener (TM), Kemira Power and Kemira Hortigrow). Other fertilizers did not differ significantly from the control treatment. To our great surprise, the Kemira Hortigrow fertilizer treatment that consisted of no supplemental N provided the greatest number of suitable seedlings for field transplanting.
