EXCHANGE SPLITTING OF LIGHT HOLE EXCITONS IN AL1-XGAXAS-GAAS QUANTUM-WELLS

摘要
Light hole excitons polarized parallel and orthogonal to the growth axis of quantum wells have different binding energies due to the exchange Coulomb interaction between the electron and the hole. This energy shift is measured for different well widths by means of photoluminescence excitation spectroscopy. The backscattering geometry on the cleaved facet is used to excite a light polarization normal to the plane of the quantum well. The results are found to be in good agreement with the theoretical values for the exchange splitting.
