REACTIONS OF ALKYLBROMIDES WITH FREE-RADICALS IN AQUEOUS-SOLUTIONS

摘要
Rate constants of hydrated electrons and hydroxyl radicals with a variety of aikylbromides in aqueous solution have been determined and are in the range of 1-2 x 10(10) M-1 s-1 and 1-2 x 10(8) M-1 s-1 respectively. OH radicals form an adduct with tertiary butylbromide (T-BB) which absorbs with a lambda(max) at 350 nm. The absorption in both N2 O saturated and air saturated systems decays with 1st order rate constant (k congruent-to 2.8 x 10(4) s-1). H atom also forms an adduct with tertiary butylbromide which absorbs with lambda(max) at 350 nm. The bimolecular rate constant of H atom with T-BB is congruent-to 2 x 10(8) M-1 s-1. The rate constant of e(aq)- with tetrabromethane evaluated from the formation kinetics of the transient at various TBE concentrations is congruent-to 2 x 10(10) M-1 s-1 and is in agreement with the value evaluated from the decay of e(aq)- with varying TBE concentrations.
