STATUS OF THE SEARCH FOR THE TOP-QUARK

摘要
The current status of the search for the top quark at CDF is reviewed. The results presented here have already been published in an exhaustive paper. As such, this paper concentrates on the general method used. A brief description of the results is also contained. An excess of events with either two high-transverse momentum leptons, or with one lepton plus jets plus a b tag over the estimated background is observed. The statistical significance of this excess is at the level of 2.8sigma. Interpreting this excess as being due to top quark production, a mass of 174 +/- 10(-13)+12 GeV/c2 is extracted.
