EFFECT OF DISPERSED TIN PARTICLES ON LOW-TEMPERATURE DUCTILITY OF IRON

摘要
Iron with uniformly dispersed TiN particles was obtained by nitriding of an Fe-0. 1Ti alloy. Tensile tests at minus 196 C showed that the TiN dispersions improved the ductility of coarse grained specimens. This effect is attributed to suppression of twin deformation. The TiN particles increased the cleavage fracture stress and inhibited fracture initiation. They did not change the fracture mode of the iron.
