Two cases of painful osteochondritis of the basal epiphysis of the first metatarsal are described. Complete resolution without deformity was achieved in both patients. We suggest that this condition be considered in the differential diagnosis of transitory foot pain in childhood. © 1990 Raven Press, Ltd., New York.
