CALCULATION OF THE SCATTERING AND ABSORBING CHARACTERISTICS OF SPHERICAL-PARTICLES IN HIGH-TEMPERATURE FLOWS

An algorithm and programs have been developed for calculating on the basis of Mie's theory the optical characteristics of spherical particles. The programs are intended for solving problems such as calculating the cross sections and efficiencies of extinction, scattering, absorption, and backscattering and the scattering phase functions of separate particles as a function of the optical constants and diffraction parameter, retrieving the diameter and complex index of refraction of a separate particle from the scattering phase function; and, taking into account the effect of the geometric-optical parameters of the measuring instrument on the determination of the attenuation of radiation by a slab of particles of a condensed dispersed phase. The programs were developed for use in processing experimental data obtained in investigations of the optical properties of particles.
